NREL Study Finds Novel Enzyme Process to Increase
Productivity in Breaking Down Biomass
(04-26-2013)
Researchers at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory
have discovered that combining two enzyme in a catalyst
system, containing a free and a complexed enzyme, can break
down biomass cell walls more efficiently. The increased
efficiency of enzyme treatment could reduce the cost of
biofuels, and increase production rates.
Funding Opportunities
Clean Energy Manufacturing Innovation Institute
(05-09-2013)
A Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) has been issued
by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to house a Clean
Energy Manufacturing Innovation Institute focusing on wide
bandgap semiconductors for power electronics in
manufacturing. The institute will be part of the National
Network of Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI). FOA funding,
including cost share, shall be used for purchasing research
equipment and instrumentation, minor renovations to
facilities as necessary, and potentially a lease for the
first five years of the project.
